Downtown Short Pump is the first, best and only source of news specific to the Short Pump area and the most read online news source in the Far West End. Combining original hyper-local news stories and a community events calendar alongside restaurant reviews, community information and entertainment options, Downtown Short Pump is the go-to place for everything in Short Pump.
The site also features a free classifieds section where locals can buy, sell and search for jobs, local school information, movie showtimes and summer concert listings. Coming soon, an extensive shopping and dining guide will highlight all Short Pump establishments, with an emphasis on shopping and dining at locally-owned businesses. Photos, menus, videos and maps will help site visitors learn more about each location and get to know business owners and their offerings.
A new weekly video podcast coming soon called Short Pump Panorama will highlight the week’s biggest news and events and feature interviews with local business owners, members of the community and other leaders.
A daily email newsletter and breaking news alerts, combined with a Twitter and Facebook presence, keep locals abreast of news that affects them, including real-time traffic information, road closures, severe weather alerts and other important information.
Downtown Short Pump is proud of their breaking news coverage, being the first to break announcements of big local stories such as the closure of locally-based businesses Circuit City and S&K Menswear, as well as in-depth coverage of stories such as the Winter of 2009 snowstorm and the July 2009 Short Pump earthquake.
Pump Up The Giving, Downtown Short Pump’s new charity initiative, aims to give back to the community it serves through projects and initiatives. In late 2009, the site led a successful food drive to feed the mouths of hungry Richmonders in need, collecting more than 3,000 pounds of food for the Central Virginia Foodbank at three different retail locations in Short Pump. In January 2010, a Richmond-wide coat drive was started to provide winter coats to those who would otherwise be left in the cold. Drop-off locations were set up at 13 different locations from Short Pump and Shockoe Bottom to Ashland to Midlothian.
Downtown Short Pump is proud to be the official media sponsor of the Loving Collective and happy to provide promotion and support of this great organization.
