We all know how it feels to be hungry, but do we fully understand the negative and systemic consequences of hunger in our community?
From lost productivity, to increased social service and health care costs associated with poor nutrition, to impaired cognitive development in under-nourished children (our future workforce), local hunger has tremendous implications for our community’s well-being.
So how do we maximize the impact of hunger relief efforts in Central Virginia? The answer is FeedMore. FeedMore is the umbrella organization that brings together the Central Virginia Food Bank (CVFB), Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia (MOW) and the Community Kitchen, helping to deliver operational efficiencies and increase feeding capacity and meal quality to more effectively and efficiently fight hunger in our region.
Post the jointly-built Community Kitchen in 2007, CVFB and MOW joined forces to create FeedMore. The new entity coordinates hunger relief through thesethree primary organizations. With a collaborative approach to hunger relief guided by best practices from both the business and the nonprofit sectors, FeedMore offers a model for leveraging limited resources to maximize the potential of our community’s most precious asset: its people.
